TC Link changelog
07-11-2026 — 2.0.2: Tempo controls and module names
- Extended keyboard tempo control to the entire TC LINK display, including its controls. Up and Down continue to adjust the tempo in 1 BPM steps.
- Added two small, themed up/down buttons directly to the right of the BPM value. Each click changes tempo by 0.1 BPM, including the decimal digit.
- Aligned the tempo buttons with the Link progress bar and matched their styling to RUN and SYNC across all themes.
- Renamed the module-browser entries to TC Link Send and TC Link Receive. Module identifiers are unchanged, preserving existing patches and purchased access. Their panel titles remain L TX and L RX.
- Updated all three user manuals for the controls and browser names, with new TC LINK panel, transport-display and module-overview illustrations.
30-10-2026 — Brit theme and manuals
- Added Brit, a light theme combining sage green, powder blue and warm vanilla.
- Refined light-theme panel shading, container borders and display contrast across TC LINK, L TX and L RX.
- Updated all three manuals with theme selection, saved defaults and VCV Library access guidance.
26-10-2026 — Theme selection and light panels
- Added the Medi light theme, replacing Ember.
- Grouped themes into Dark and Light menus for easier selection.
- Added Use as default to choose the theme for newly added modules without changing modules already in the patch.
- Added theme selection for standalone L TX and L RX. Companions follow an active TC LINK and restore their saved choice when the core is removed.
- Added silver screws and a cleaner header treatment for light themes.
22-10-2026 — Standalone network audio
-
Added connection/activity status and a separate Link peer count to L TX and L RX.
-
L TX and L RX now work without a TC LINK core, sharing one Link connection.
-
Adding or removing a core preserves the audio session, channel names and receive selections. TC LINK remains optional for timing and transport control.
-
Bypassing the module handling shared audio lets another active module take over without reconnecting the session.
20-10-2026 — Link Audio update
- Updated Ableton Link to 4.1.1, including a fix for audio buffers being resent when increasing the buffer size.
- Includes upstream improvements to network-audio packet timing, sample-rate conversion timing and validation of incoming audio data.
02-10-2026 — Illustrated manuals and public documentation
- Published a public documentation website with individual manuals for TC LINK, L TX and L RX, plus downloadable Markdown copies.
- Added a side-by-side module overview, individual panel illustrations and close-ups of the controls described in each manual.
- Expanded practical guidance for sequencer synchronisation, stereo audio sending and receiving, clock resolution, themes and channel selection.
- Clarified that a second RUN press cancels a pending quantised start, and that stopping TC LINK transport does not mute Link Audio.
- Improved documentation readability with a charcoal theme, light-gray text, amber navigation pills and clearer module tables.
01-10-2026 — Panel refinements and playback reliability
Panels and controls
- Added six selectable themes: Default, Copper, Glacier, Moss, Amethyst and Ember.
- Companions follow the active TC LINK theme; standalone companions retain their own saved theme. The TC branding keeps its fixed colours.
- Refined panel containers, spacing, display alignment and control columns for a consistent appearance across all three modules.
- Updated knob shading and added a subtle reflection that follows knob rotation.
- Adopted the L TX and L RX companion titles with compact pill styling.
- Expanded abbreviated CLOCK, RESET and PHRASE labels for easier reading.
Timing and transport
- Corrected clock pulse timing at high tempos and clock resolutions so separate pulses remain distinguishable.
- Improved RUN and SYNC restoration when loading patches and presets or using undo and redo.
- Corrected RUN handling while a quantised start is pending, allowing another press to cancel it.
- Reduced display and indicator update overhead while keeping audio, CV and timing outputs processed at the full audio rate.
Network audio
- Improved receive buffering and recovery when channels or audio conditions change, preventing outdated buffered audio from playing after a change.
- Improved sample-rate conversion when the incoming channel and Rack use different sample rates.
- Improved handling of module removal, resets and saved channel selections.
- Improved saved-setting validation and handling of channel names containing international characters.
28-07-2026 — Genesis: first recorded TC Link milestone
TC LINK
- Established Ableton Link 4 integration for VCV Rack 2, sharing tempo and phase with other Link applications.
- Added tempo entry, optional Start/Stop Sync, a quantum phase display and connected-peer count.
- Added beat, bar and phrase counters, animated timing indicators and trigger outputs.
- Provided a selectable 1–96 PPQN clock, RESET trigger, RUN gate and beat, bar or phrase metronome click.
- Included local timing operation without another Link peer.
- Established one active timing core per patch, with automatic promotion of a standby core when the active core is removed.
- Included adjacent CLKD auto-patching and optional transport control from CLKD.
Link Audio companions
- Introduced four-lane audio sending with independent mono/stereo operation and editable channel names.
- Introduced four-lane audio receiving with channel selection, stereo outputs and mono duplication to both outputs.
- Added channel-loss detection, automatic recovery and unique receive-channel assignments across multiple receivers.
- Allowed companions to share the active TC LINK session from anywhere in the patch.
This is the earliest recorded project milestone. Earlier prototypes and their dates are not documented in the available history.
